Vergenoegd is one of the oldest wine farms in
South Africa, producing only red wines. The Faure family have farmed the vines and made wine for six generations. The manor house is an historical monument dating back to 1773.It is an excellent example of
CapeDutch architecture. The “holbol” gable, original yellowwood floors and ceilings contributes to experience of what live on an old
Cape farm would have entailed.Furniture in the Manor house has been gathered by the Faure family over the period of 250 years that they have lived at Vergenoegd.
The Vergenoegd cellar is also what one can describe as an old working cellar.Although modern equipment has been integrated in the cellar, the old “oop kuipe” are still in use during harvest.
Vergenoegd reds are synonymous excellence. These elegant wines have consistently performed as wines of quality.Built to age, Vergenoegd wines form part of the legacy of the Faure’ at Vergenoegd. As wine maker, John Faure has continued the tradition of making wines that are unique and subscribe to the Vergenoegd legacy of excellence.
Vergenoegd is unique in their use of Indian Runner ducks as part of their pest control program. The present owner and wine maker, John Faure is an ornithologist of note.Loving all things feathered he breeds ducks as a hobby. The Indian Runners are used to “work” in the vineyards to eat snails and other insects.About 250-300 Indian Runners are herded into the vineyards daily to forge for snails and insects.
